Having trouble connecting to games?
If you wanna boost, you need to get your connection sorted...
The first thing you should check is that your "NAT" is "Open" via the Xbox dashboard.
To access the Xbox Live Connection test go to the System blade, select Network Settings, then select Test Xbox Live Connection. It will sign you out of Live if you are currently signed in. The last item is "NAT", as you can see in the image to the right and the value will be "Open", "Moderate" or "Strict". Ideally you want it to be "Open", if it's "Moderate" you may be lucky and connect without problems to other Whores. If it's "Strict" then you need to get your techie hat on and sort out your router and/or modem.
It is most likely that "Strict" NAT occurs due to the firewall settings of your router / modem. There are a number of things you can do to fix this problem.
- Sometimes simply rebooting your broadband modem / router can clear the issue, but sadly there's a high chance it'll reappear soon. Try calling your internet service provider (ISP) if they supplied your broadband hardware as they may be able to adjust the settings remotely for you, or guide you through the process.
- The simplest solution if the reboot didn't work is to see if your router / modem offers UPnP and to enable it. Doing this doesn't involve changing any of the network settings on the Xbox 360 itself.
- If UPnP didn't work, or is not available on your hardware then the next easiest solution is Port Forwarding. This involves configuring your router to allow the Live data through the built in firewall in your router / modem.
- Another option, but probably the hardest to implement is placing your Xbox in the "DMZ" which means it will have unrestricted access through the router. You'll need to configure the Xbox 360 to use a static IP address and specify that in your router configuration.
